Velcro material

Welcome everyone.

Yesterday I tried to create a material like velcro and I failed. One side is plain fabric with pile but the other part as you know is a regular pattern with hooks. Can I create such material for close shots inside a keyshot? I mean, of course, this hacky material.

Can you please upload a picture of what you exactly want to create?

I will try to create something like this.

My friend told me that i should make this in blender with arrays/nodes (i am not blender user) then render in keyshot.

I will find a solution in Keyshot. As i use Keyshot for all my render jobs.

I’m excited to see if Ratan can come up with a way to make Velcro in Keyshot, it feels like a really challenging thing to make without modeling it.

I would 3D build ONE hook and pattern array it in Keyshot to multiply to your liking, The woven part I´d create with the native RealCloth material from Keyshot. Merge all together and you should have the results you are looking for.

I was thinking about creating many hooks in 3D and bake a displacement map from those which you can use in Keyshot. Maybe you need to trick the scale of the scene a bit to have it work out well since those hooks are so tiny and the render engine needs some ‘space/surface’ to work with as well.

Gave a try and got this result.

Velcro is pretty fascinating, that displacement wouldn’t really work I found out. Did came across this clip which is really modelled the way it works. Thought it looks cool. If you watch for a little bit you also see a slomo of the real material which gives a nice look on how it works.

Check this out, I am also trying to create this. To some extent it is successful.

If you want to show this very closely, create this as a brush in Zbrush and then create an Alpha map for us. It can be used in Keyshot.
